Wow- It's cool what you are doing! I love animals, but I could never seem to ever find a pet supply store in my area...I applaud you for adding one to the world lol! Well it seems like you are creating a store that has the potential to be a very popular bargain pet supply store. Everything seems very well-priced, but I would suggest moving up the prices of all pet brushes, especially the horse grooming tools. For things such as brushes, I would move it to $6-$7. I don't know what other horse grooming tools there are, but I guess they could stay the same! For dog/cat brushes, I would say around $4 or $5 would be great. Anyway, all the other things sound very great and affordable to the public! I wish you and your friend luck with the store, and I hope I've helped!
Dogs scratch the ground before lying down to sleep. After raising their feet to pee, our furry friends also scratches the ground. The same thing happens after a dog has gone to the bathroom. Inside the house dogs are known to scratch the carpet, outside the house they usually scratch the grass or the ground. As with all other dog behaviors this action has a natural explanation.
The scratching behavior of a dog can be his bedtime ritual. People drink a glass of water or fluff the pillows before sleeping; kids want mom or dad to read them a bedtime story before lights out. Dogs too have idiosyncrasies. They scratch to make a perfectly comfortable bed.
Dogs may scratch the ground for no apparent reason. Scratching is fun and cool! They simply enjoy making holes in the ground. Some dogs however scratch the ground to combat boredom and loneliness. This is most common in dogs that are left at home all day with no toys and no other dogs to play with. In some cases, dogs will paw the ground to make a hole. In effect the dog is making a bed on the ground to help the body adjust to temperatures of extreme heat or cold.
Dogs will scratch and dig to hide a toy, a bone or a treat. This scratching behavior has been handed down by the dogs ancestors in the wild. Wild dogs of the past needed to hide the food from scavengers in order to survive. Thus scratching and digging was a great tool for the purpose. Naturally, modern day dogs need not hoard food. The doggie bowl will always be filled with kibble come meal time. The behavior of catching food though is inherent in the dog.
Ground scratching can also be done for hygienic reasons. Notice how dogs scratch the ground after they have defecated. Similar to cats, dogs are trying to cover their feces, though it seems that dogs are not making a good job of covering their excrements. This leads to the notion that ground scratching after the dog has gone to the bathroom is a territorial marking and a dominance issue. When a dog scratches the ground around its stool or the area where it has peed, it is actually marking the location with its very distinct smell and claiming the area as his territory. By scratching the ground, the dog is actually spreading its scent and informing other dogs that the area is his territory. When the dog scratch the ground the scent glands on the dogs feet also secretes the dogs unique scent further marking the territory.
