how do i write something pursuasive?

I need the most answers as possible and QUICK! Ok so my friends and i are trying to raise money to buy collars, leashes, ect. to give to a local shelter. Im going around my neighborhood REALLY SOON to collect money. I wanna write a little letter to give each person to read to persuade them to cough up a little money. Here are my questions:
1)How do i start?
2)Do i give each person one letter? Or do i tape it where im putting the money?
3)What do i say to the person when they answer the door?

Firstly, you need to get a letter of authority from the Shelter before you can go doorknocking on their behalf. That way people will know you are genuine. You will also need a receipt book from the organisation to give a receipt to people who donate.
Perhaps the Shelter has an official T shirt you can wear.
Secondly, have a brief handout with all your information written clearly (and correctly) on it. You can photo-copy this so people keep them or if they are not home you can put them in their mailbox and then call back later.
Have a picture of cute looking animals from the shelter or download one and the words WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Give the shelter's name and say that collars, leashes, blankets etc are desperately needed. Ask, "Can you help by donating unwanted items or by making a cash donation to purchase some?".
Have the leaflet signed by the Shelter's president or manager.
When you speak to people, introduce yourself: "Hello. My name is ...... and I am trying to help the ...........Animal Shelter and I wonder if you would read this leaflet and see if you could help us. We need collars and leashes but will also accept donations to help us buy some."
Give them a receipt for cash donations and thank them very much. Even if they don't donate, thank them for their time and hope they can help in future.
Don't forget to speak on parade at school or at Church about what you are doing as that will also get you lots of support.
But you must do it legally and so get permission from the Shelter.
Never go to a stranger's house alone. Be safe and go in pairs.
