i'd go with the last one, the adjustable shedding blade. it works great on dogs long or short-haired...and it works without hurting their skin. but when we get dogs like rottis or labs in my shelter, we go for this one to get their dead hair & shedding under control. you'll be amazed at how much hair you can actually get with this, all with a fraction of the cost of the furminator. (that's a good brush too, but try the cheap one first since it's about $40.)

the first one (shed ender) works well, but the head of it is too small to get much done for larger breeds. you're working the dog all day long just to get the loose hair off.

What are the best professional dog grooming clippers?

I am looking to buy a real pair of clippers for doing my dogs and to possibly get into professional grooming as well.
Experienced groomers, what are the best kind of clippers and any other tools (scissors, thinning shears, brushes, etc ) do you use and recommend on a daily basis.
I have bought some from Petsmart for like 60 bucks and then after 5-6 haircuts they are junk! Also they heat up and make lines in the dog's coat.

Osters, Wahls and Andis are the best brands out there. A variety of blades of different lengths. A good pair of 8 1/2" straight shears, a pair of fine thinning shears, and possibly a pair of curved shears are good for a beginning groomer. A variety of slicker brushes, rakes, combs of different sizes, Mar coat king, furminator, and a good quality pair of nail trimmers can make up the rest of your kit. The thing that you need most is the knowledge of using this equipment in an efficient and humane manner.

Lastly, nail trimming is also an important part of dog grooming. What kind of shampoo is good for a Bernese Mountain Dog's coat?

I have a one year old bernese, and he always likes to roll in the dirt and mud. I need some suggestions about what kind of shampoo or what not to clean his coat. The shampoo that I use at the moment doesn't get his white fur that bright white color anymore and I would like to get that color back. Please help!

I like shampoo's made by either "Kelco" or "Bio Groom". Also a trick of the trade to get your dog super clean. Get your dog super lathered up with the shampoo all over then take a slicker brush and brush the dog with the shampoo on. It will get all the loose undercoat out and will get your dog clean to the skin. And when you brush out your dog, section out the dog. Start by brushing out the back leg. Then work your way to the rib cage area working your way all around the dog. This will help so you won't jump around the dog, so you'll know what you've done and what you haven't worked on.

Maltese dogs are not only beautiful but are lovable and kind natured dogs. As a member of the toy breed, they are small in stature and donÂ’t get much bigger than 6 pounds. Most of their bulk comes in the form of thick white hair. Their coats hang long, flat and silky over the sides of the body and skim the ground.

Taking care of the Maltese coat is the most important part of grooming the breed. Maltese should be brushed and combed a minimum of every other day. Daily brushing, however, is recommended if you want to keep their coat healthy.

The best brush to use is an open-spaced pin brush. Avoid brushes with “balls” on the pins. Start by lifting up the top layer of hair, spray a light coat of water or a leave in conditioner and brush the bottom half of the coat free. Continue until that layer is tangle-free all the way to the skin and then work up to the top layer of hair. Always make sure to brush the dog’s underbelly to prevent matting.

If your Maltese does develop mats, try to work it out gently at first with your fingers. Trying to brush it out first may result in hair loss. You can also try spraying the mat with de-tangler or a coat conditioning oil to loosen the hair.

Gently pull apart the mat with your fingers and the end tooth of a comb as necessary. The most important thing to remember is to go slowly because if you try to remove the mat too hastily, you may end up needing to cut the mat out.

Another important part of taking care of the Maltese coat is regular bathing. Before beginning the bathing process, brush and comb your dog thoroughly to get rid of any dead hair and knots. If there are any mats present, they must be taken care of first because water will only tighten the knot.

Many Maltese owners like to use conditioner on their dog’s coat. A special type of conditioner called a “coat handler” works as a leave in conditioner, detangler and fragrance all in one.

Work the conditioner or coat handler through the dogÂ’s hair and then squeeze excess water from the coat. Pay close attention to the ears, tail and legs when removing water. Then you can start drying with towels. Once your dog is at the damp-dry state you can begin to blow-dry. After blow-drying, you can comb out the dogÂ’s hair to make it smooth. Wash your Maltese no more than once a week for a healthy coat.

3. If you choose to make brushing a game, your goal is to get your pet excited about being brushed so that eventually just seeing the brush will bring your pet running to you. Start with short sessions. With brush in hand, ask in a happy voice, "Do you want to get brushed?" Stroke your pet with the brush and then say, "Good boy!" Repeat the stroking a few times and use the word "brush" to help your pet associate it with the activity. Gradually lengthen the sessions.

4. Alternatively, you might opt to use brushing as a therapeutic tool, particularly if your pet is not used to regular grooming. Wait until your pet is in a comfortable, relaxed state and then alternate stroking with your hand and stroking with the brush. Speak in calm, soothing tones to reassure the animal. If your pet gets agitated, stop brushing, revert to stroking with your hand, and try again another day.

5. Before brushing, run your hands through your pet's coat from back to front to massage the skin and loosen dead hairs. This massage will help to stimulate and distribute natural oils in the skin, which gives a healthy shine to the coat. Then use the type of grooming that is best suited to your pet which can be a brush, comb or mitt to brush your pet from head to tail. Don't forget to brush the underbelly and also between toes and pads which can collect small stones, chewing gum and other debris. To avoid scraping your pets' skin, try not to press too hard with a wire slicker brush.

6. If you come across matted hair, first hold the matt close to the skin. Next insert the end tooth of the comb into the matt and try working the matt loose. If you find this isn't possible you might want to cut out a matt so you don't cause your pet any unnecessary discomfort. After your pet is matt-free, comb down to the skin. Remember to comb or brush your dog against the lay of the coat.

What kind of brush is the best to use on my cat?

i've tried the "slick' brushes and undercoating brushes, but he's really fuzzy. i got him fromt he pound but i've been told he has alot of perrsian in him (or something). no matter how much i used the other brushes, he still sheda like crazy!! somebody please help me with some advice

can someone help me?????

i am looking for a grooming tool that will get the dead fur off of my medium haired cat. I have a sharp metal slicker brush and all it does is scrape up the cat. Please help, thanks.
(FYI: I don't scrape up my cat I only tried it once)

Use a COMB not a brush. Brushes do little to remove the dead hair of the undercoat and can pull out and break top coat hairs. A comb will gently remove the loose undercoat hairs and leave the top coat intact. Slicker brushes should only be used on cats with short coats.

Even better - I really like the Bamboo ones. The teeth of the comb are longer so it works on even the long coats of my Persian and Ragamuffin https://plus18.safe-order.net/justpetsonline/catalog/images/rotating%20coarse%20comb.JPG That's all I ever use to groom my cats and it works great. The teeth also rotate so you're less likely to tug at the fur.
