Is wire fencing strong enough to keep in a large dog?

I had a large pit bull / pointer? mix dog dumped at my house a month ago. Since I live in the country the in town animal shelter will not take the pup, so I now have a dog. He's presently on a 30' foot line in the yard. He can't stay in the house while I'm at work as I have two older house cats and he tries to play with them and it scares them. Unsupervised it could grow to an attack. Also my brother works nights and has to sleep during the day.
While I know chain link would be the best, I cannot afford it. I will need the fence to be at least 4 foot high though I'm thinking 5 foot would be best. Has anyone used those metal fence posts with wire fencing? Are they strong enough to hold up to a large, very active dog. The pup is 5 months old, 55 lbs and growing. Is welded wire strong enough or should I get the woven stuff? How far apart should the metal fence posts go?

Honestly, the kind of fence you are describing will not hold a 55lb pit/pointer mix if he gets a notion to go wandering. It would probably work well if someone were there to supervise him, but I wouldn't trust it to keep him contained while I was away at work. 5 feet is not high enough (truthfully a 50+ pound dog can scale a 6-8 foot chain link or wooden privacy fence if they are determined enough) and 4 feet is right out...he'll probably clear such a short fence in one leap. I'm not sure which metal fence posts you're talking about exactly, but if the dog hits the fence hard enough he can push most of the metal stakes I've seen in home improvement stores right out of the ground. If you decide to go ahead and build this fence I suggest going with wooden 4x4's at least for the posts. If this dog is just going to be left alone outside during the day while you are at work would it be possible for you to buy a chain link kennel (they usually come in 6x6x6foot panels, with one panel having a door/gate and you can make them a variety of sizes)? Or perhaps you could invest in a crate and crate train him so that he can stay inside while you're gone without you having to worry about him harming your cats or bothering your brother?

Should I pay someone to install an electric dog fence or try to do it myself?

I am not particularly handy -- the instructions I'm finding online seem to talk about stripping wire, digging trenches etc.

My dog is Puking all over the place is there anything I can do?

My little chihuahua is puking up all over the place,I found some wires in her cage. If she did eat wires could that cause her to throw up? and im afraid she'll dehydrate. Is there anything i can do? Plus im not sure i want to take her to the vet, so there anything I can do without taking her to the vet?
Im at work and my boss won't let me leave to tkae her.
Just this morning I gave her a new bone!
And now she is acting fine, I think her stomach was just upset.

My would you not want to take her to the VET? Good grief, she could have swallowed a wire.

Are you about ready to bring your very own brand new rabbit home with you and you want to buy your bunny a new home? You should learn what kinds of cages are available in order to choose just the right one for you and your new bunny. There are various types of cages and they all need to be clean in order to take the best care possible of your new bunny.

The first thing that you are going to need to think about is size. Typically, you'll find that the bigger the cage is, the better. When you are dealing with the smaller breeds of rabbit, look for a cage that is roughly 24 x 36 inches. With a larger rabbit, one that tops 8 pounds or more, look for a cage that is at least 30 x 36 inches. To get the most space, consider a two story cage.

Also consider the design of the cage. Because most rabbits can be litter trained, a solid floor is possible. A wire floor can chafe your rabbits feet and cause them to be sore, though if a wire cage is your only option, make sure that you put down something like a piece of flat wood or a grass mat to protect your rabbit's hocks.

The size of the door should be large enough for you to get the rabbit out easily. It should also give you easy access to the litter pan and the litter pan should lift out entirely. A side door will let you get larger rabbits out easier, though for speed, a cage that opens at the side and along the bottom might be ideal. Make sure that the edges of the door are smooth and without raw wire.

When it comes to bedding down a rabbit, there are many options available to you. Sisal mats are great for offering a cozy location. You can add carpets, towels, a fleece blanket or fabric scraps to add extra comfort to the cage. Since evergreen aromatic oil are harmful to the liver and lungs of a rabbit, do not use cedar or pine shavings. Rather you should use straw or hay, since it is healthier for the bunny.

When you want to make sure that your rabbit stays healthy, remember that regular cage cleaning is a necessity. Start by removing any cloth or loose bedding, and then take out the food bowl and the water bottle. You can then spray the cage with a mixture of hot water and vinegar, which will not be harsh on your rabbit when you put it back in. Pay special attention to the area where the litter box is.

When the hutch is completely dry, line it with several layers of newspapers, while adding a few extra layers in the litter tray area. You can add kitty litter to achieve extra absorbency. Some rabbits may make a mess with it, yet others do quite well. You can observe your rabbit to see how well your rabbit reacts to the litter.

Whether you decide to use straw, shredded newspaper or fabric scraps, you can add the bedding material now. You might choose to use shredded newspaper in the open area, while placing straw in the enclosed shelter area. After you finish doing all this, you can refill the water bottle and the food dish and return your rabbit to its cozy cage.
