Rabbit Cage Question???

So I have a Mini Rex that is a bit bigger for a Mini Rex (fatty!!!) and she has a four foot HUGE cage. I am getting a French Lop (huge frenchie baby!) and she is going to need a need a cage. I only have a 50$ dollar spending limit but she needs a large cage! Dog kennels or cat kennels work fine too but could you help me find a large rabbit cage that is within a 50$ spending limit??? Let's talk about how to make a bunny happy! (Because you have to admit, when they're happy, we're happy too!)

First things first. How do you know when your bunny is happy? Bunnies love to show it! If your bunny flops on her side and just lies there with her eyes closed, you'll know all is right with her world. She might scare you the first time she does this, and it's not uncommon for a new bunny owner to think something is wrong. Don't worry. Your bunny is just telling you she's happy. It's the happy flop.

Then there's the binky. If your bunny binkies, you know she's on top of the world. Binkies are crazy happy dances. Your bunny will hop in the air, twirl her head and spin around then maybe start running at top speed. Any bunny owner will attest to the great joy it brings to see their bun or buns do the binky dance.

Now, how to keep your bunny content? First and foremost is attending to her chewing needs. Bunnies absolutely love to chew. Phone books are popular with bunnies who love to shred the pages, so make sure you keep all of your old phone books (you might even ask your friends and family for theirs.) A bunny can go through a phone book pretty quickly.

Toilet paper and paper towel rolls are also safe and popular chew toys for bunnies. To make it even more fun, you can take a roll and stuff hay inside for them to dig out.

Boxes and paper bags are also a great source of entertainment for bunnies. You can fill the paper bag with hay, or just put an open paper bag on the floor for the bunnies to crawl into and dig. You'll be surprised at how long they can entertain themselves by playing with the bag.

Cardboard boxes are also an incredibly easy source of entertainment. Take a fairly large box and cut several doorways and windows into it. (Bunnies always prefer to have at least two entrances.) Your bunny will love to go in and dig, chew (making the doorways or windows bigger) and hide away. It's also a great place to put your bunny's haywhich she can eat as well as dig. You can also securely tape a bunch of cardboard boxes together, so the bunnies can run through them and play.

Use your imagination and creativity, and you'll find there are endless ways to turn everyday cardboard boxes into a playground for your bunnies.

what can i use on the bottom of a crate if the plastic tray is broke?

I have a couple of dog crates ( the black wire cage ones). The plastic tray bottom that comes with them have cracks in them but the cages are still good. I put a blanket in there but the dog chews them. Does anybody have an idea of what i could use to replace it? I tried a kennel mat but the dogs chewed it. do they sell just the bottm for these cages some where?

Our cat had kittens 4 weeks ago. Is it normal for them to kill things and put it in their cage?

Mama cat keeps killing birds (that's all we found right now) and she puts them in the kittens kennel with them. I found one early this morning so I put on latex gloves and got it out. I talked to my mom who has the kittens at her house (I help take care of them) and she just got another one out.
And by the way to all the people who think we aren't caring for a cat. She came as a stray and we have an appt to get her spayed. I do not appreciate getting critisized. I just wanted to know if this is normal. I know cats hunt, I just wanted to know if its normal for them to do it for their young. Thank you to all the peopld who answered my question nicely.

Aren't you worried about the mother cat getting killed - hit by car, eaten by a wild animal, etc - and then your mother's left with four kittens to bottle feed?

And what about this mother bringing back diseases to the kittens?

And doesn't it bother you that your cat is eradicating songbirds in your neighbourhood?

What about the fact that three to four weeks after birth SHE CAN GET PREGNANT AGAIN???!!!!! Which means she MAY ALREADY BE PREGNANT!

This cat needs to be kept INDOORS.

Also please ask your mother to get this cat spayed as SOON as these kittens are weaned. She also needs to spay and neuter these kittens BEFORE she gives them away. It's bad enough she's already killed shelter cats by taking homes away them with this litter. But if she gives these kittens away unaltered and they go on to breed - and their kittens - and so on - and so on - she could be single handedly responsible for THOUSANDS more unwanted kittens.

If money is an issue and she can't "afford" to spay and neuter these kittens there's plenty of free and low cost spay and neuter programs out there http://www.lovethatcat.com/spayneuter.html She should at least give them a donation as it costs quite a bit of money for shelters to be able to offer this.

Did you know that one dog and her offspring can produce about 67,000 puppies in a six-year time? Considering that shocking figure it's not surprising that about 4-5 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year in the United States shelters.

One of the reasons for all these unwanted dogs is puppy mills. If puppy mills could be shut down there would be a significant reduction in the number of unwanted pets.

The breeders at these puppy mills are often kept in cages that are more like chicken coops than dog kennels. They are often de-barked by shoving a metal pipe down their throat and banging it with a hammer to rupture their vocal chords. The life these dogs live is unimaginable.

Females are bred over and over again until they become too old or develop some health condition that prevents them from being of any use to the owner, at which time they are often euthanized at home by whatever means the owner chooses.

The fortunate ones end up at dog rescues. The breeder, after years of getting all the puppies he can from her, will offer her for sale in a local paper or online. Some rescues will watch for these ads and ask if the breeder will offer to relinquish her to the rescue to be adopted out or ask if the breeder will let the rescue buy the dog for a lower price (rescue funds are most always scarce).

Rescues make this attempt to get the female dogs out of the breeding circuit, spayed, and into a good, loving home. Oftentimes, if the rescues can not intercept these dogs, they are sold to another party who will continue to breed the dog.

The puppies from these puppy mills end up at pet shops. One way you can help put puppy mills out of business is to not buy puppies from any pet shop. Another way to help is to support any legislation your state or country tries to pass to shut down puppy mills.

What can you do personally? If you have any dogs make sure they are fixed so they can't add to the overpopulation.

Other ways you can help is to volunteer at your local shelter or with a dog rescue. Perhaps you want to foster a dog or several dogs.

You can also provide unwanted dogs with a good home by adopting them from a dog rescue or from an animal shelter. Once home, give the dog time to get accustomed to his new surroundings. Let him be inside with the family.

If you don't already have a doggie door, get one. And if you don't have a fenced yard (which shelters and rescues usually require) put one up, even if it's just a small section outside the doggie door. This will make it easier to housebreak a dog that has never been trained.

To adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue is a wonderful thing to do, but first be certain you are ready for a new dog. Read up on how to take care of a dog or puppy. Read up on the breed you want. Get some dog training materials (Cesar Millan is highly recommended).

Adopting a dog is a big responsibility that should be for the life of the dog. The same thing goes for adopting a kitten or cat. These creatures depend on us to take care of them, and right now there is a lot we can do to improve their plight.

My dachshund won't stop pooping in his cage!?

I have a seven month old male mini dachshund. He's my baby. I always put him in his kennel when I go out, never more than three hours, and he sleeps there at night. He was doing really well for awhile, but lately he has started pooping in his cage again. He has done it five times in the past three days. He eats about two cups of dry dogfood a day. Do you know any home remedies to get him to stop??
Of course I walk him!!! Right before I put him in and as soon as I let him out!!

we have a mini doxie too [ 10 months old ]
i think that 2 cups a day of food is too much.
it depends on how much he weighs also. ours is just under 12lbs.
we feed him 1/3 of a cup 2X a day = 2/3 of a cup per day.
we take him out 4X a day also.

this works for us and he's fully potty trained and can hold it up to 8 hours.

6:00 am - breakfast 1/3 cup of kibble
6:30 am - morning walk

2:00 pm - mid-day walk
2:30 pm - mid-day snack of sliced apples/ fruit

6:00 pm - dinner 1/3 cup of kibble
6:30 pm - after-dinner walk

9:00 pm - water bowl removed
9:30 pm - before bedtime walk

putting your pup on a schedule makes it easier for you to schedule when he's going to go.

New puppy owners should always make sure that their dog comes from a responsible breeder. This is really is the only way to ensure that the animal will be free of any behavioral problems. If a breeder you speak with displays any of the following 5 traits, he or she probably isn't breeding healthy puppies in accordance with standards that have been set for the breed.

1. The breeder is willing to sell you any puppy you want, no questions asked.

All reputable dog breeders care about what happens to each and every puppy they breed, even after it leaves their care. A good breeder will ask you many, many questions about your lifestyle, experience with the breed, house and property size, show or breeding experience, and other aspect of your life that may affect the puppy's future.

If your answers to these questions are not satisfactory, then the breeder probably won't sell the puppy to you. A good breeder will also require that you sign a contract in which you agree to:

Have the puppy fixed if you're not going to breed it;

Notify the breeder if the dog develops any diseases or medical conditions;

Notify the breeder first if you are no longer able to care for your dog; and, do anything else the breeder feels is important for the health and well-being of the puppy and the breed. If your breeder doesn't seem to care about the puppy's future and only seems interested in payment, go to another breeder.

2. The breeder seems reluctant to answer questions about the puppy's pedigree.

A reputable breeder knows all about the pedigrees of the puppies he or she sells. He or she knows who the parents were and can provide you with each puppy's lineage, going back several generations. You will also want to register your puppy with the American Kennel Club.

The breeder is supposed to supply you with an registration application with his or her portion already filled out. After you fill out and submit your part of the application, you'll receive a registration certificate. If the breeder you are dealing with cannot provide you with any documentation or registration papers for either the litter or the parents, be extremely wary.

3. The breeder does not seem too concerned with the health of his or her animals.

Any potential buyer of a purebred puppy should be able to see the facility in which the animal was bred. Do the puppies and other dogs there look healthy? If not, then the breeder may not be keeping an appropriate standard of care.

This could affect the future health of the puppy in which you're interested. The breeder should also have a record of the puppy's health care, from birth to the present, and should be happy to provide you with copies. He or she should also guarantee that the puppy is free from any genetic disorders.

4. The breeder won't allow you to see the breeding area.

Any reputable breeder will be happy to give you a tour of their facility. If the breeder you've chosen is not willing to let you see where your potential puppy comes from, the breeder may be running a puppy mill.

Puppy mills are facilities that breed puppies only for profit, not for the benefit or love of the breed. Often, multiple dogs are crammed into one cage, the living conditions are filthy and the dogs there do not receive the proper nutrition or medical care. If the puppy you want comes from such a facility, it will most likely have serious medical and behavioral issues related to its stay there.

5. The breeder engages in questionable business practices.

If the asking price for your purebred puppy is significantly lower than other prices you've seen advertised for the same breed, there may be something wrong with the dog.

Perhaps it comes from a puppy mill or has some serious medical issues. If the breeder also sells to pet stores, you can be pretty sure that he or she is operating a puppy mill. Reputable breeders usually concentrate on one or two breeds. If the breeder advertises that he or she has many different breeds for sale, then this is another indication that he or she may be breeding animals indiscriminately, without much concern for set breed standards.

ik its a dog cage, but its hard to find a rabbit cage thats big enough, it will be used for 1 holland lop or 2 smaller breed, will this be big enough? Or if not can u give me some links to good cages

hi their no you can't use a dog create its not open enough for air to get to them or droppings to go out, go on ocala for sale or cregs list, ebay, or go to an feed store in your area and ask if thy have any or know where you can get one realy two is what you need , i don't like to put two rabbits together.go to places where people are selling things your news paper even will usually have things for sale, if you know how you can build your own not hard ,to do its a bunny not a cat or dog the rabbits don't realy try to get out of a cage unles hole in it big enough for him to fall out .hope i helped you if you were near me i would give you a cage but i have no idea where you are at .i made my own

Is it okay to line my bunny's cage with newspaper?

The cage I have for my bunny is HUGE. It is a sturdy wire dog crate/kennel thing with a plastic bottom. I am looking for a hutch for outside but as of right now, I need to line the cage with something. Is newspaper toxic to the bunny because of the ink? I have an appointment with the college I am going to but I will be back to check on answers. PLEASE respond. I need to clean the cage out as soon as I get back. thanks!

Um you could line your bunnies litterbox with newspaper and fill it up with shredded paper or carefresh?
