Does this sound right? Is there a cheaper way to get a single door installed?

I want to replace an old door that measures 34” x 80” and is 2” thick. At the local Lowe’s I saw a door that measured 34” x 80” for $280 and installation $320. I also liked a screen that was around $280. and installation $120.
I was told that I had to pay $40, non refundable but applied to order for someone to come measure my doorways.
I am being told that the doorway measures 34.5” x 80.5” and the door way is 5” wide, in which the universal width is 4”. The sales person states that I have to special order the door and screen that will cost $698 for each the door and screen and the installation will increase greatly.
Does this make sense? (I got an estimate to make a wider opening and install a better quality glass sliding door that is cheaper than trying to install a single door and screen via Lowe’s!)

Shop around. However make sure whomever you choose is licensed and bonded. Take a look at their past work, also check out the other big box store, Home Depot.One thing that Lowe's or Home Depot has over other contractors, especially the shady ones, is that you know you'll have some sort of recourse if your not happy with the project.

With the plethora of commercial door closers on the market, it can be difficult to determine what to type to install.  Styles and costs range from a few hundred dollars to over one thousand per unit.  Careful consideration must be given to the needs of your business and your commercial building.  After all, the investment that you'll make is significant.

3) Power usage.  Naturally, automatic door closers will add to your monthly electric bill. 
Again, it's recommended that at least one door be outfitted with an automatic model.  This probably won't make a significant dent in your power usage.  Two or more will, so install them wisely, and choose efficient models.  Of course, power failures will affect the performance of automatic door closers.  However, most are made with the capability to allow doors to be opened manually as well, meaning that you won't lose an entrance during a power outage.

 

4) Interior mobility.  You may need to install automatic door closers on one or more interior doors as well.  Again, it depends on your clientele, staff and how your building is used and navigated.
